Sinah Ober
ARTIST, PHOTOGRAPHER, AND FILMMAKER
Sinah Ober was born in Germany’s Black Forest to a carpenter and a tailor. Her award-winning films are about personal perspective and individual experience. She is interested in childhood, femininity, sexuality, history/culture, and trauma. Sinah works as an independent freelance director, producer, and actor in Los Angeles and Berlin.
Sinah’s films as a director have screened at several film festivals, including the Pan African Film Festival (Best Short Film Nominee), Maryland Film Festival, Katra Film Series (Best Short Film Winner), Big Muddy Film Festival, Student Experimental Film Festival at SUNY, and the International Academic Video Festival in São Paulo among others. Her films as a producer have screened at the Viennale, Fantasia, Clermont-Ferrand, Portland Film Festival, Baltimore Film Festival, San Diego Underground Festival, Slamdance, Tribeca, and elsewhere.
As an educator, Sinah has taught at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and as part of CalArts’s Community Arts Partnership program. She is always interested in helping Best Fit Education clients reach their highest potential and find their voice as a filmmaker and creator.
Sinah and fellow BFE Arts Advisory Board member Jesse Damazo have created a Portfolio Film Development Course to help students create and develop films that will help their film portfolios stand out. Students not only end up with a polished film they can be proud of, but they will also gain valuable skills and learn about themselves as an artist.
