MAKI KUBOTA

CELLIST

Maki Kubota is a cellist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra (HSO). He has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and has collaborated as a chamber musician with artists such as Lynn Harrell, Jeremy Denk, Glenn Dicterow, Randolph Kelly, and Karen Dreyfus.

Recent engagements have taken Maki to Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Poland for a tour with the HSO, Colombia for a performance with the Medellin Philharmonic and faculty residency with their National Youth Philharmonic, Mexico for performances through Visit Houston, Spain to record for IBS Classical, as well as Santa Barbara and San Diego to perform at the Music Academy of the West and La Jolla Summerfest, respectively.

Maki is frequently engaged as a clinician, judge, teacher, and performer, and his students have gone on to study at prestigious conservatories across the United States. Maki plays on a cello by Johannes Theodorus Cuypers made in 1767 and a bow by Victor Fetique.
