Read (And Then Read Some More!)
Reading is not only a great escape from the real world and fun, it helps you prepare for college! College courses are demanding and require large amounts of time spent reading.
Here are all the reasons that you should make time in your schedule to read whether for pleasure or gathering information.
Reading improves your vocabulary.
Reading makes you a better writer. Students who are readers have an easier time organizing ideas, developing arguments, and communicating their ideas!
Advanced Placement (AP), as well as International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, are reading intensive. Colleges want to see that you are able to succeed in these courses.
Reading improves your test scores. The ACT, SAT, and all English proficiency tests are designed to test your reading comprehension skills.
Reading books, blogs, and niche publications develop your areas of interest.
Reading is a tool to increase your empathy and understanding of others as you come across characters that are similar and very different from you.
Colleges want to know about your reading habits! Several of the more selective universities ask for lists of books that you have read recently—beyond what is required for school. Keep track of the books (or substantive magazine pieces) you have read and a short note about each one in a journal or document on your Desktop.
Interviewers want to know if you are a reader. You should be prepared when they ask about your favorite book or a book you have read recently.
